President Bola Tinubu has honored the late Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the founding President of Namibia, hailing him as a warrior who inspired Nigeria and other African nations to support Namibia’s fight for freedom.

Speaking at the state burial held at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described Nujoma as not just a national hero but a warrior who defied oppression. Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria was deeply involved in Namibia’s struggle for independence, stating, “When the world turned its back, we stood. When your voice was drowned by the guns of apartheid, we spoke.”
Tinubu further celebrated Nujoma’s enduring legacy, stating that his passing is not the end but rather a continuation of his immortality in the hearts of Africans. He noted that Nujoma’s life was dedicated to the ideals of freedom and the betterment of his people, reflecting on his leadership that helped build Namibia from the devastation of occupation.
In his tribute, Tinubu emphasized Nujoma’s fearless leadership, saying, “Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma was not just the founding father of a nation that needed a hero; he was a warrior in the age of chains.” The Nigerian leader paid his respects alongside several other African Heads of Government, attending the state burial to honor Nujoma’s profound impact on the African continent.
