In a bold move to curb land disputes, fraud, and bureaucratic bottlenecks, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, is revolutionizing land administration through a groundbreaking digital initiative. Naija247news gathered that the state government has launched a cutting-edge Geographic Information System (GIS) to streamline land ownership processes, ensuring transparency and efficiency in land transactions.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Naija247news, the new system, dubbed Anambra Land Digitalization Project (ALDP), is designed to digitize all land records, including titles, surveys, and ownership details. This initiative aims to eliminate the rampant issues of double allocations, forgery, and illegal land sales that have plagued the state for decades. Naija247news understands that over 10,000 land records have already been uploaded onto the platform, with plans to complete the digitization of all land documents by mid-2024.
Governor Soludo, during the official launch of the project in Awka, emphasized that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader vision to create a “liveable and prosperous homeland.” He stated, “Land is one of our most valuable assets, and we must ensure that its administration is transparent, efficient, and accessible to all. This digital system will not only reduce fraud but also attract investors who seek a secure environment for property acquisition.”
Naija247news reports that the ALDP platform allows landowners to verify their documents online, apply for land titles, and track the status of their applications in real-time. The system also integrates with other government agencies, such as the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, to ensure seamless coordination in land-related matters.
Stakeholders in the state have lauded the initiative, describing it as a game-changer. Chief Ngozi Okeke, a real estate developer in Onitsha, told Naija247news, “This is a welcome development. For years, we’ve struggled with land disputes and fraudulent practices. With this system, we can now conduct transactions with confidence.”
However, some challenges remain. Naija247news gathered that there are concerns about the accessibility of the platform in rural areas, where internet connectivity is limited. In response, the state government has announced plans to establish digital hubs in local communities to ensure inclusivity.
As Anambra leads the charge in digital land reform, other states are already taking notes. According to Naija247news, representatives from Enugu and Imo States have visited Anambra to study the system, signaling a potential ripple effect across the region.
With this innovative approach, Soludo is not only transforming land administration but also setting a new benchmark for governance in Nigeria.
