Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The only Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Unguwar Lalle, Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State has been in a deplorable state for the past two years, leaving over 3000 residents without access to essential healthcare services.
A windstorm had blown off the labour room roof, yet no repairs have been made, forcing pregnant women to give birth in unsafe conditions.
Patients are treated on mats due to the absence of proper beds and medical supplies, while exposure to harsh weather and poor sanitation increases the risk of disease outbreaks.
The situation has escalated into a health crisis, with maternal and infant mortality rates rising due to the lack of functional medical equipment.
Many residents must travel long distances for treatment, delaying urgent care and worsening health conditions.
“Two years of neglect is unacceptable,” a local resident lamented, expressing frustration over the continued deterioration of the facility.
Civic technology organisation MonitNG has called on the Sokoto State government, the Federal Government, the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and the Federal Ministry of Health to take immediate action.
With N31billion allocated to the health sector in the Sokoto State 2024 budget, the continued neglect of the PHC has raised concerns about accountability.
“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege,” MonitNG declared, urging authorities to act swiftly.
Residents are appealing for urgent intervention, warning that prolonged inaction will further endanger lives.
The worsening healthcare crisis in Unguwar Lalle underscores the need for immediate government’s response to restore the facility and provide quality medical care to the community.
