Grammy Awards 2025: A Night of Resilience and Performances Amid Wildfire Crisis
The wildfires that ravaged parts of Los Angeles in January had many questioning whether the 2025 awards season, including the Grammys, should proceed. But on Sunday night, the show went on — and it did so with heart.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were heavily influenced by the devastating fires that hit the city. The night kicked off with a performance of Randy Newman’s iconic song, “I Love L.A.,” followed by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars bringing their magic to “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas & the Papas. Attendees showed their solidarity by wearing blue heart-shaped pins, supporting MusicCares’ wildfire relief efforts.
By the end of the event, Trevor Noah, the host, revealed that viewers at home had contributed an incredible $7 million to the wildfire relief cause as of that evening.
Held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the nearly four-hour broadcast featured a series of captivating performances. Chappell Roan had a colorful and energetic performance of “Pink Pony Club,” dancing with cowboys in clown makeup. Benson Boone wowed the audience with his song “Beautiful Things,” performing two flips on stage. Doechii stole the show with a high-energy mix of her songs “Catfish” and “Denial is a River,” accompanied by dancers matching her intensity.
The night’s biggest honors didn’t disappoint either. Chappell Roan took home the coveted Best New Artist award, Kendrick Lamar claimed both Song of the Year and Record of the Year for his powerful track “Not Like Us,” and Beyoncé finally earned the long-awaited Album of the Year for her album Cowboy Carter.
As the evening unfolded, it became clear: despite the devastating challenges, the 2025 Grammys were a testament to resilience, unity, and incredible talent.
