The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of 378 undocumented migrants involved in fraudulent activities across Ogun State.
According to a statement, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday during a joint operation by officers from the Ogun State Command and Zone A headquarters in the Lambe/Ajuwon Akute areas.
Breakdown of Arrests
Ogun State Comptroller Muhammed Akadri revealed that a detailed profiling of the suspects showed:
• 334 Cameroonians
• 27 Ghanaians
• 26 Beninese
• 1 Togolese
The group comprised 251 males and 125 females, all aged between 25 and 30 years.
Lack of Documentation
Akadri stated that none of the suspects had valid travel documents or residence permits and had entered Nigeria through unauthorised border routes.
“They could not present any form of identification during interrogation,” he said.
Deportation Plans Underway
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has ordered that legal procedures be followed to ensure their deportation.
“This measure is part of broader efforts to tighten border security and regulate migration in line with national security objectives,” Akadri added.
The arrest in Ogun State follows similar operations across the country. Last week, the NIS apprehended 40 illegal immigrants in Oyo State, while the Minister of Interior, Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo, confirmed that 828 illegal immigrants have been deported in an ongoing nationwide exercise.
