Rivers State Government Awaits Comprehensive Briefing on Supreme Court Judgment Regarding State Allocation and Local Government Administration

In a statement released on Friday, Joe Johnson, the Commissioner for Information, emphasized that the government would thoroughly evaluate the situation once detailed information is received before determining the next steps in the best interest of the state and its residents.
Johnson urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm, law-abiding, and continue with their daily activities as the government seeks further clarity on the ruling. He also clarified that the issue of defection involving 27 lawmakers was not part of the Supreme Court case but is currently pending before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
The commissioner stressed that Martin Amaewhule and the 26 other lawmakers are still regarded as legitimate members of the Assembly by the Supreme Court, as the defection matter is yet to be addressed by the court.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Johnson emphasized that the Rivers State administration will continue to uphold the rule of law and protect the state’s best interests in all matters.
