Nigeria Freezes MultiChoice Subscription Prices Amid Ongoing Investigation into Proposed Tariff Hike

This decision was made public in a statement released Thursday by the FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu. The directive follows MultiChoice’s request to delay its scheduled appearance before the commission due to concerns regarding ongoing price increases.

While FCCPC granted the extension, it has now rescheduled the hearing for March 6, 2025, requiring the company’s CEO and relevant officers to provide a detailed response to the inquiry.

“As part of this directive, MultiChoice is expressly instructed to maintain the existing price structure as of February 27, 2025, pending the commission’s review and final determination on the matter,” the statement read.

The FCCPC emphasized that freezing prices during the investigation period is essential to safeguard consumers from potential exploitation.

Earlier, the regulator had summoned MultiChoice’s CEO to attend an investigative hearing scheduled for February 27. MultiChoice had announced plans to increase subscription rates, including adjustments to the DStv Compact package, while keeping the Compact Plus and Premium bouquets at N30,000 and N44,500, respectively.

The price hikes, effective March 1, 2025, sparked concerns among subscribers, with the company citing a review of its pricing structure as necessary to continue providing world-class content.
