Lucky Aiyedatiwa Sworn In as Ondo Governor, Promises Economic Growth and Inclusive Governance

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, drew a large crowd of supporters, dignitaries, and political stakeholders. Aiyedatiwa, who contested and won the governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took his oath of office at precisely 12:59 PM, shortly after his deputy, Olayide Adelami.
Following the official ceremony, the governor embarked on a victory lap around the complex in an open van, acknowledging cheers from the enthusiastic crowd.
“We Will Not Rest on Our Oars”
Addressing the people of Ondo State after his inauguration, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his commitment to governance, promising to sustain public confidence and deliver impactful policies.
“We assure you that the renewed mandate you have overwhelmingly given us comes with a heavy responsibility, and we promise never to rest on our oars,” Aiyedatiwa declared.
He pledged to govern with integrity and ensure that the most vulnerable, including the poor, the sick, and the marginalized, receive adequate attention from his administration.
“In the next four years, we will work with investors and development partners to actualize the Port Ondo project, a major step toward economic transformation. Additionally, we will facilitate investment in bitumen exploration to generate substantial revenue for the state,” he added.
Dignitaries Grace Inauguration
The event witnessed the presence of top political figures, including APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, Minister of Youth Ayodele Olawande, and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, among others.
Victory at the Polls: Aiyedatiwa’s Journey to Alagbaka
Aiyedatiwa’s emergence as governor followed a hard-fought battle at the polls, where he triumphed over his main rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC flagbearer secured a landslide victory in the November 16, 2024, election, polling 366,781 votes against Ajayi’s 117,845 votes, winning across all 18 local government areas.
His political journey began as deputy governor to Rotimi Akeredolu, a role he assumed before being sworn in as substantive governor on December 27, 2023, following Akeredolu’s demise after a prolonged illness.
Aiyedatiwa’s tenure promises continuity and economic advancement, as he now leads Ondo State into the next phase of its development.
