The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has rejected the South-South Zonal Congress held in Calabar, Cross River State, led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The NWC clarified that the congress, which was attended by figures like former Governor Donald Duke, was not an official event of the party.

Wike Challenges NWC’s Authority, Declares South-South Congress Final

In response to the NWC’s stance, Wike insisted that the PDP constitution did not mandate the NWC to conduct zonal congresses, but rather it was the responsibility of the zone itself. He emphasized that the congress in Calabar was the final one for the South-South Zone and declared that no further congress would be held.

PDP NWC Calls for Unity Despite Dispute Over Zonal Congress

Despite the disagreement, the PDP NWC praised the South-South PDP members for their loyalty and called for party unity. The NWC also reiterated that a new date for the South-South Zonal Congress would be announced officially, urging all members and stakeholders to disregard the Calabar gathering.
