El-Rufai Warns APC: Realign or I’ll Seek Another Platform
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Abuja, Nigeria – Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that he may seek an alternative political platform if the party continues to drift from its founding progressive values.
“I am not ready to retire from politics, so sooner or later, I may have to find another platform to pursue those progressive values that I believe in if I can’t find them in the APC,” El-Rufai stated in an interview on ARISE News.
While affirming that he remains a member of the APC, El-Rufai accused the party of abandoning its principles. “I am not leaving the APC; the APC has left me,” he declared, lamenting the party’s failure to uphold internal democracy, combat corruption, and implement its economic and security agenda.
He criticized the APC’s failure to hold regular National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, arguing that the party has lost its accountability. “In two years, the party has not met, so no one, to the best of my knowledge, has any insight into what has gone wrong,” he noted.
El-Rufai ruled out joining the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), saying, “One thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not a party that I will go to, ever. Other parties? Possibly.”
On the 2027 presidential election, he remained noncommittal about supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. “I will evaluate the situation at the time and consult widely,” he said.
