Peter Obi Rejects Claims of Desperation for ‘Free Ticket,’ Reaffirms Commitment to Democracy
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has denied any suggestion of desperation for a “free ticket” or special treatment ahead of the 2027 election. Obi, through his media aide Ibrahim Umar, responded to recent statements from the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who clarified that the Labour Party was not planning to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, or other 2023 candidates in the upcoming poll.
This clarification came after Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, suggested that the party would field Obi in 2027 to counter President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Addressing questions about the possible 2027 candidacy, Ifoh dismissed the claims, labeling the reports as baseless and distancing the statement from Julius Abure’s camp. When questioned about the ‘no automatic ticket’ position voiced by Abure, Umar stated that Obi was not concerned with such issues.
Umar emphasized, “Peter Obi remains committed to democracy and the well-being of all Nigerians. He has always championed the importance of good democracy, fair competition, and healthy democratic practices.”
He further clarified that Obi had never sought any preferential treatment but believed in a level playing field where individuals could compete fairly. He urged the public to focus on issues that genuinely mattered, rather than getting distracted by misinformed narratives.
Obi’s commitment to promoting good governance, economic growth, and social justice remains firm. He reiterated that his actions and decisions would continue to be guided by the principles of democracy, fairness, and equality to lead Nigeria toward prosperity.
