The students claimed that the vigilantes, who were conducting a routine patrol, opened fire without provocation, hitting Musa in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Naija247news gathered that the protest turned violent as students blocked major roads, burned tires, and demanded justice for their slain colleague. “We will not rest until those responsible for Ahmed’s death are brought to book,” said a student leader who spoke to Naija247news.
Naija247news understands that the vigilante group has denied the allegations, claiming that they acted in self-defense. “We were attacked by a group of armed men, and we had no choice but to defend ourselves,” a spokesperson for the vigilantes told Naija247news.
According to Naija247news, the Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, urged the students to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served. We appeal to the students to avoid taking the law into their own hands,” Buba stated.
Naija247news reports that the protest has drawn widespread attention, with human rights groups and civil society organizations calling for a thorough and transparent investigation. “This is a tragic reminder of the need to regulate vigilante groups and ensure that they operate within the confines of the law,” said a spokesperson for the Katsina State Human Rights Commission.
As tensions remain high, Naija247news gathered that the university management has suspended academic activities indefinitely to prevent further escalation. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Armaya’u Bichi, expressed condolences to Musa’s family and assured students that the university would cooperate with the authorities to ensure justice is served.
