The commission’s Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that OSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye, congratulated the winners and urged them to uphold democratic principles in their service to the people.
PDP Hails Osun Electorates
Reacting to the outcome of the polls, Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, commended the electorate for standing firm despite alleged provocations. He described the voters as the “heroes of democracy” for resisting intimidation and safeguarding their right to vote.
“Before and on Saturday, the will of our people for democracy was greatly tested by anti-democratic elements,” Bisi stated. “Everything was put in place to stop the election, albeit illegally. However, the people of Osun stood firm and exercised their rights.”
He criticized attempts to disrupt the process, alleging that compromised security agents and opposition forces sought to undermine the elections.
Condemnation of Electoral Violence
Bisi also condemned the violence that occurred before the elections, particularly in Ilesa East, where a voter, Ajilore Ifeoluwa, was reportedly shot dead. He accused Ademoroti Adeboye (aka Germani), an alleged associate of former Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, of being responsible for the killing.
“The APC thugs unleashed violence on innocent voters, leading to the death of a barber in Ilesa East and injuries to many others across the state. Shockingly, this incident happened in the presence of policemen, yet no effort was made to arrest the assailant,” Bisi alleged.
He called on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that electoral violence does not go unpunished.
