Portable Confesses to Mental Health Issues, Appeals for Help Amid Police Pursuit
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has publicly admitted to struggling with mental health issues, revealing that he is currently undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta. In a video posted on his social media, Portable appealed to Nigerians and the Ogun State government for help, as he sought support during a difficult time in his life.
The video came after a police declaration on Monday night that Portable was wanted in connection with an alleged assault on government officials. According to the police, Portable was involved in a violent attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, who were carrying out lawful duties in Ota.
In the video, Portable explained his situation, acknowledging his mental health challenges and pleading for understanding. “I fear the government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman, and I have medications I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card certifying me as one of their patients,” he said.
Portable’s recent legal troubles are not his first run-in with the law. In early 2024, the controversial musician was arrested after allegedly refusing to pay for a G-Wagon vehicle he had purchased from a car dealer in Ogun State.
The current issue stems from an incident on February 5, 2025, where Portable allegedly attacked Ogun State government officials during an enforcement exercise. Police officers had approached an elderly man who turned out to be Portable’s father, seeking the approved building plan for an establishment called “Odogwu Bar.” Portable later appeared with a group of individuals, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, and the situation escalated into a violent confrontation. The officers sustained injuries but managed to report the incident, leading to a police investigation.
Nine individuals were arrested in connection with the incident, but Portable remains on the run. Despite being called to the station, he has not complied with the police’s request, prompting them to seek a valid court order to declare him wanted.
In his social media video, Portable continued to appeal for assistance from the public, particularly the Ogun State government, as he faced mounting legal and personal struggles.
