The Nigerian Federal Government has commenced the expansion of the Ajaokuta-Okene-Auchi-Ekpoma-Benin Road into a dual carriageway, following the cancellation of the previous contract due to poor performance.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Minister of Works David Umahi launched the project, revealing that President Bola Tinubu ordered a permanent fix using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), designed to last 50 to 100 years. The road’s deterioration and heavy traffic congestion had long disrupted travel and economic activities.
After inspecting the project site and observing delays under previous contractors, Umahi recommended contract termination for three of the four road sections, which Tinubu approved. The road is crucial for linking Abuja and northern states to Nigeria’s southern regions, facilitating trade and mobility.
Project Breakdown:
• Section I: Obajana Junction to Ajaokuta Junction – handled by CGC Nigeria Ltd.
• Section II: Okene to Auchi (63.70 km) – CGC Nigeria Ltd.
• Section III: Auchi to Ehor (54.224 km) – BUA Construction Nigeria Ltd.
• Section IV: Ehor to Benin (67.9 km) – CBC Nigeria Ltd.
Umahi commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and residents for their support and urged new contractors to deliver on schedule. Governor Okpebholo, in turn, thanked President Tinubu and the Minister for prioritizing the project.
