The examination, which took place between October 25 and December 20, 2024, introduced a hybrid format, allowing candidates to choose between the traditional paper-and-pen option and a newly introduced computer-based mode. This marks a significant shift in WAEC’s examination process, aligning with global digital trends.

65,023 Candidates Sat for the Exam Amid Declining Participation

According to WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola F. Adesina, a total of 65,023 candidates sat for the exam across 5,067 centres nationwide. This represents a 20% decline compared to the 2023 entry figures, where more candidates registered. Among them, 157 candidates had special needs, including 25 visually impaired candidates, 13 with hearing impairments, and 15 albinos. WAEC assured that these candidates were given adequate support to ensure a smooth examination process.

Improved Performance: 53.64% Secure Five Credits, Including English & Math

A performance analysis shows a marked improvement in candidates’ success rates. A total of 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained at least five credits, including English and Mathematics—an increase of 9.35% compared to the 2023 results, where only 44.29% achieved this benchmark.

Breaking down the gender performance, 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) earned five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 16,886 male candidates (48.41%) met the same requirement.

In total, 43,923 candidates (67.55%) secured five credits or more, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

Results Processing and Malpractice Cases

WAEC confirmed that 95.9% of results have been fully processed and released, allowing the majority of candidates to access their scores without delay. However, 4.1% of candidates (2,669) have some of their subjects still being processed due to errors linked to their submissions. The council assured that efforts are ongoing to complete the processing swiftly.

Additionally, 2,577 candidates (3.96%) had their results withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice. Affected candidates have been advised to visit WAEC’s official portal (https://waecinternational.org/complaints) to follow up on their cases. Investigations will be conducted, and the outcomes will be communicated directly to the affected candidates.

How to Check Results and Obtain Certificates

Candidates can check their results online via www.waecdirect.org. Digital copies of certificates have also been released alongside the results and can be accessed through WAEC’s digital certificate platform (www.waec.org). Those who require hard copies must apply via the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (https://certrequest.waec.ng).

WAEC Commends Stakeholders, Assures Commitment to Excellence

WAEC expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including government agencies, security personnel, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and other officials, who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination.

The council reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining examination integrity and improving service delivery. Candidates are encouraged to take necessary steps based on their results to advance their academic or professional aspirations.
