Anabela Rungo, mother of Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina, has reportedly been arrested in Cape Town over allegations of illegal residence in South Africa. According to a statement issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Republic of South Africa, Rungo’s detention was executed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Saturday.

In September 2024, the department revoked Rungo’s official South African documents following accusations of identity fraud, which allegedly involved obtaining South African citizenship under false pretenses. This rendered her ineligible to remain in the country.
Despite the revocation of her citizenship, Rungo reportedly continued residing in Cape Town with Chidimma’s sibling, using a Mozambican passport, and ignoring the authority’s previous order.
