Lagos State Governor and chairman of the forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the resolution on his X handle, emphasizing the need for enhanced security coordination across the region. “Recognizing emerging security threats, we resolved to establish a Joint Surveillance and Monitoring Team to enhance security coordination across the South West,” he stated.

Beyond security, the meeting also addressed economic challenges, including rising inflation. While expressing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, the governors acknowledged the impact of fuel subsidy removal and currency floating on the economy. They attributed the surge in food prices to “unscrupulous middlemen” in the supply chain and agreed to create a State Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team, establish Aggregation Centres, and develop Food Hubs to tackle inflation.

The governors also commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) introduced by President Tinubu’s administration, urging students in the region to take advantage of the initiative to further their education.

In addition, they welcomed the establishment of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), with its headquarters located at Cocoa House in Ibadan, Oyo State. Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his confidence in Odu’a Investment Company Limited, highlighting the importance of regional asset management and urging the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to collaborate with commissioners for agriculture to boost industrialization and infrastructure development.

The resolutions highlight the South-West governors’ commitment to regional security, economic stability, and sustainable development, setting the stage for a more coordinated approach to tackling pressing challenges in the region.
