The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its commitment to fielding Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections, vowing to challenge President Bola Tinubu more aggressively than in 2023.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, insisting that Tinubu will not have an “easy ride” in the next election.
“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027. We are coming back with Peter Obi so they will know we are very serious,” Arabambi declared.
LP Dismisses Okonkwo’s Exit as ‘Good Riddance’
Arabambi also dismissed the resignation of former party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, describing it as a relief for the party. He accused Okonkwo of having divided loyalties and working for the ruling APC and President Tinubu.
“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, his resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he said.
Labour Party Denies Internal Crisis
Arabambi rejected claims of a leadership crisis in the party, insisting that LP remains strong and focused on its 2027 ambitions.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. We are not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imagination of most of our detractors,” he added.
With this announcement, Peter Obi’s return to the 2027 race sets the stage for another fierce contest in Nigeria’s political landscape.
