Senate Issues One-Month Ultimatum to Contractor Over Audio Communication Breakdown
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Senate has given a one-month ultimatum to the contractor handling the renovation of its chambers to fix the recurring issues with the audio communication system or face severe consequences. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, expressed his frustration during Tuesday’s plenary after his microphone malfunctioned during proceedings.
Akpabio directed the Chairman of Senate Services, Sen. Karimi Sunday, to immediately coordinate with the contractor and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) to ensure the installation meets the standards befitting one of Africa’s largest parliaments.
“We give between now and one month to have a system suitable for this chamber installed or we make further decisions,” Akpabio stated, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
The ongoing renovations aim to install facilities that would allow for real-time interpretation of proceedings in multiple languages, aligning with global legislative practices. Akpabio warned that failure to meet the deadline would lead the Senate to take decisive action.
