Naija247news – A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Bode George, has expressed full support for the recognition of Sunday Ude-Okoye as the authentic National Secretary of the party.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The position has been at the center of a leadership tussle between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu, with both men laying claim to the role. However, after a BoT meeting on Wednesday, party elders urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately swear in Ude-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary.
Court Ruling Validates Ude-Okoye’s Position
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George emphasized that the decision was based on a Court of Appeal ruling affirming Ude-Okoye as the rightful occupant of the position.
“So far, the facts they presented are clear, and I am completely on board with that. What do you expect the elders to do? There was no counter Court of Appeal judgment apart from the one in favor of Ude-Okoye,” he stated.
He noted that if Anyanwu chooses to appeal to the Supreme Court, the party will respect the final verdict.
Calls for Unity and Focus in PDP
George urged Anyanwu to step aside for the sake of party unity, allowing the PDP to focus on its role as an opposition party. Despite the internal crisis, he insisted that the PDP remains better organized than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The PDP is not collapsing. The taproot of the party is still deep, just like an Iroko tree. Only the wind at the top is shaking it. We will resolve it,” George assured.
PDP Not a Private Enterprise
He further dismissed any notion that the PDP belongs to any individual, calling on those pushing personal ambitions at the expense of party unity to leave the party.
“PDP is not a private enterprise. Those who are so fixated on their private ambitions should find their way out,” he concluded.
As the PDP navigates its internal crisis, party leaders are expected to take decisive steps in ensuring stability and unity ahead of future political engagements.
