Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!A twin-engine Learjet 55 crashed near the Roosevelt Mall in northeast Philadelphia on Friday, Jan. 31, around 6:30 p.m. local time. The jet had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft had two people on board at the time of the crash. Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania has offered state resources to assist with the emergency response, speaking with the Mayor of Philadelphia as the situation unfolds.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management confirmed that emergency crews were responding to a “major incident” near Cottman and Bustleton avenues. Local authorities have closed off roads in the vicinity to facilitate the response efforts.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
This incident comes as investigators continue their probe into a tragic mid-air collision earlier this week near Washington, DC, in which an American Airlines regional jet collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River.
