She emphasized that the crisis has been exacerbated by factors such as climate change, conflict, and economic instability, particularly in developing nations like Nigeria.
“Naija247news understands that Dr. Aliyu stressed the need for a coordinated approach to hunger eradication, urging governments to prioritize agricultural investments, improve food distribution systems, and implement policies that support smallholder farmers. She also called on the private sector to leverage technology and innovation to increase food production and reduce waste,” a source at the summit revealed.
The foundation proposed a multi-pronged strategy, which includes the establishment of community-based food banks, the promotion of sustainable farming practices, and the empowerment of women and youth in agriculture. Naija247news reports that the GFSF has already initiated pilot projects in several states, with promising results in reducing hunger and improving livelihoods.
“Naija247news gathered that the summit featured presentations from experts in agriculture, nutrition, and policy-making, who shared insights on how to build resilient food systems. One of the key recommendations was the need for increased funding for research and development in the agricultural sector, particularly in areas such as seed technology and soil management,” the source added.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Aliyu announced the launch of a new initiative, *“Zero Hunger Alliance,”* which aims to bring together stakeholders from across the globe to work towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of ending hunger by 2030. According to Naija247news, the initiative will focus on advocacy, capacity building, and resource mobilization to support hunger eradication programs.
The call for collaboration has been welcomed by several organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), both of which pledged their support for the foundation’s efforts. Naija247news understands that the Lagos State Government has also expressed interest in partnering with the GFSF to implement hunger alleviation programs in underserved communities.
As the world grapples with the growing hunger crisis, the Global Food Security Foundation’s appeal for unity and action serves as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure food security for all.
