Okonkwo, a business mogul, will be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). As part of his preparations for the election, he also inaugurated his provisional campaign council ahead of the party’s primary.

In his address, Okonkwo emphasized that his decision to run was born from a deep sense of responsibility to contribute to Anambra’s development, following extensive consultations with stakeholders. He described the state as a land of great potential, home to industrious entrepreneurs and resilient people. However, he lamented that poor governance had hindered the state’s progress.

“The pains and horrors of insecurity have left our people living in the bondage of fear. People are crying for real security and progress,” Okonkwo said. “With a deep sense of responsibility, and unwavering commitment to the future of our dear Anambra State, today I declare my intention to contest the forthcoming governorship election.”

He outlined his vision to prioritize key areas such as security, economic transformation, job creation, infrastructure development, education, human capital development, agriculture, technology, skills acquisition, and value reorientation.

Okonkwo positioned his candidacy as a movement to reclaim Anambra from stagnation and set the state on the path to sustainable development. He called for collective support, pledging to focus on the welfare of the people, particularly youths, women, and vulnerable populations.

“My vision is to build an Anambra that is prosperous, secure, and globally competitive. No society can thrive without security and accountable leadership,” he said. “Together, we will work closely with security agencies, invest in community policing, and ensure government efficiency.”

He concluded by reiterating his commitment to the movement, saying, “It is for this movement and for the good of our collective future that I intend to pursue this vision on the platform of APC.”
