The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 21 minors suspected to be victims of human trafficking at the Geidam border post in Yobe State.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Yobe State Comptroller of NIS, Sani Sule-Jega, the children, aged between seven and 15, were traveling without documentation from Magama Local Government Area in Niger State to the Republic of Niger. The minors have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
The suspected trafficker, Abubakar Sadiq, claimed the children were being taken to Niger Republic for educational purposes at the request of their parents. However, immigration officials flagged the journey as suspicious, citing the lack of proper travel documents.
Both the driver and the alleged trafficker have been transferred to NAPTIP for further questioning, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the movement of the minors.
