Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been elected as the new Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum. His election took place during an extraordinary session of the governors’ meeting held on Friday in Maiduguri, with the theme: “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community.”
In his acceptance speech, Buni expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their trust and confidence in electing him. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and efforts in promoting peace, security, and development within the region.
Buni emphasized the importance of partnership and resource allocation in achieving the collective goal of creating a prosperous and resilient Lake Chad Basin. He pledged to serve the region with dedication and responsibility, collaborating with fellow governors and development partners to drive sustainable social and economic growth.
The newly elected chairman also commended the outgoing Chairperson, Ildjima Abdraman, the Governor of Hadjer Lamis Province of Chad, for his contributions to the forum and expressed appreciation for the support of all participants at the meeting. Buni wished them a safe journey as the session concluded.
