Speaking via video link at the World Economic Forum, Trump called the war a “carnage” and emphasized the urgency of saving lives.
Trump stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was ready to make a deal, while hinting at ongoing U.S. peace efforts. He also floated the idea of reducing nuclear weapons, believing Russia and China might agree.
Despite threats of sanctions and tariffs on Russia earlier this week, Trump reiterated his commitment to resolving the conflict. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, and efforts to replace the New START nuclear treaty, expiring in 2026, remain stalled.
