Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Federal High Court Chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued to the federal government.
The strike is in response to the government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage, 25% and 35% salary increases, and a wage award.
In a statement released on Thursday, Comrade Samuel Ikpatt, Chairman of JUSUN’s Federal High Court Chapter, disclosed that all federal courts are affected, as staff have not received payments owed to them under the new wage structure.
SaharaReporters learnt that workers in all the federal courts – Federal High Court, Appeal Court, Supreme Court and National Industrial Court – are being owed.
The statement, obtained by SaharaReporters, revealed that the union had earlier mandated its members to prepare for industrial action if the government failed to address their demands before the ultimatum ended on January 23, 2025.
Comrade Ikpatt noted that the strike could still be averted if urgent steps are taken to fulfill the payment obligations to union members.
The statement read, “Sequel to the attached circular from our union National Secretariat, write to notify the Management that we shall be proceeding on an indefinite strike action after the expiration of Twenty-one (21) days this notice commencing from Thursday, the 23rd of January, 2025.
“The above resolved is as a result of inaction on the
non-implementation of the new minimum wage, 25% & 35% of salary increase and the We Award.”
“Kindly note that the impending strike could be averted if urgent steps are taken to ensure payment to our members before the expiration of the notice,” Samuel added.
