West Africa to Host Landmark Summit on Industrial Revolution in Lagos – 17 January 2025
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Against the backdrop of Africa’s low contribution to global GDP and manufacturing value-add, the West Africa Industrialisation, Manufacturing & Trade (West Africa – IMT) Summit and Exhibition is set to take place in Lagos this year.
According to a statement from the organisers, the event aims to accelerate industrial development across West Africa by bringing together key decision-makers from the industrialisation ecosystem. The goal is to foster collaboration and develop a roadmap toward a sustainable and intra-African industrial revolution.
Themed “Accelerating West Africa’s Sustainable Industrial Revolution for Economic Prosperity,” the summit will convene global market leaders to ignite innovative discussions on leveraging Africa’s abundant resources in partnership with technological solutions from developed nations.
“Heads of State across West Africa have set industrialisation as a key priority, acknowledging it as the central catalyst for economic transformation,” the statement read. With the region’s vast natural resources, young workforce, renewable energy potential, and cost-competitive labor, the continent has the ingredients for industrial success. However, challenges such as climate change, rising energy and food costs due to geopolitical tensions, and political instability continue to hinder progress.
The summit will focus on effective reforms and policy measures to attract investors and create a business-friendly environment. Discussions will also explore advanced technologies for cleaner energy systems and green industrialisation, positioning African nations to leapfrog toward a more efficient and rapid industrial revolution.
