Victor Osimhen Nears Galatasaray Loan Move as Napoli Agrees to Cover Majority of Striker’s Salary

Date:

Napoli is reportedly close to finalizing a loan deal that would send Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray. The agreement might see Napoli cover a significant portion of Osimhen’s €10 million per season salary. This development follows Osimhen’s sidelining at Napoli after failed transfer negotiations with Al-Ahli and Chelsea on deadline day.

Napoli’s director, Giovanni Manna, and manager, Antonio Conte, have both stated that Osimhen will not be reintegrated into the squad, citing his initial request to leave the club. According to Italian journalist and football transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, negotiations between Napoli and Galatasaray are in the final stages. A dry loan has been proposed, allowing Osimhen to move to Galatasaray until June.

Di Marzio further reported that Galatasaray is set to pay Osimhen’s salary in full until June 30, 2025. With the European transfer window closed, options for Osimhen are limited, but the Turkish transfer window remains open until September 13, providing a crucial opportunity to finalize the move.

Reports from Sky Sport Italia and Corriere dello Sport confirm Galatasaray’s interest, especially after Mauro Icardi’s injury, which could see the Turkish club field both Osimhen and Icardi in a two-striker formation once Icardi recovers. RMC Sport in France has indicated that Osimhen has already accepted the move, pending final agreements between Napoli and Galatasaray.

Despite being the 2022/23 Serie A champions, Napoli cannot replace Osimhen due to the closure of the Italian transfer window on August 30. However, their decision to exclude him from the squad shows they were prepared for the striker’s potential departure this season. If the loan move does not go through, Osimhen could remain sidelined for up to four months.
