The Nigeria Police Force has declared Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, a British citizen, wanted for allegedly orchestrating a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. The announcement was made on Monday by the Force spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Police claim that Wynne played a role in planning and funding the August protests, which were part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize the country and promote an unconstitutional regime change.
“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria. Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended, who received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the country,” Adejobi stated, as reported by Daily Trust.
Further, police investigations have uncovered evidence and confessions linking Wynne to the violent protests, demonstrating that he provided both operational guidance and financial support to the participants. “Preliminary findings suggest they orchestrated and funded violent protests, disseminated false information, and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government,” Adejobi added.
This development comes after the recent arrest and subsequent release of Polish nationals in Kano by the Department of State Services (DSS), who had been detained for weeks during the protests. The police have also summoned Comrade Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning in relation to Wynne’s activities.
