“The Polish students have been released and are in Kano,” the foreign ministry stated in a post on social media platform X. “Thank you to everyone involved in the release of the Polish citizens!”
The arrests came amidst widespread protests by hundreds of thousands of Nigerians since August 1, opposing President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which include the reduction of fuel and electricity subsidies, currency devaluation, and soaring inflation rates.
During some of these protests, Russian flags were seen being waved, raising concerns about growing Russian influence and activity in West Africa.
