He referenced Sections 122 (A) and (B) of the 1999 Constitution to support his request. “This supplementary budget is crucial for addressing critical needs, such as paying the new minimum wage and implementing vital infrastructure projects that will enhance the quality of life for our people,” Yusuf explained.
The proposed budget includes allocations of ₦33.76 billion for personnel costs, ₦34.49 billion for overhead expenses, and ₦30.97 billion for capital expenditure. According to Musa Shanono, Commissioner for Planning and Budget, the initial 2024 budget for Kano State was ₦437.34 billion, and if approved, the supplementary budget will raise the total to ₦536.56 billion. Shanono stressed that the additional funds would focus on infrastructural development, human capital enhancement, and improvements in the health and education sectors.
During the same plenary session, Yusuf Aliyu, representing Nassarawa Constituency, proposed a motion urging the state government to rehabilitate and reconstruct the Gwagwarwa Mini Stadium. Aliyu expressed concern over the stadium’s deteriorating condition, which he claimed had led to increased drug peddling and insecurity in the area. “Revitalizing Gwagwarwa Mini Stadium will not only boost sports development but also improve security and provide a safe space for our youth,” Aliyu said, urging the government to prioritize this initiative.
The Kano State House of Assembly is expected to review both the supplementary budget request and the motion for the stadium’s rehabilitation in the coming days.⬤
