Anambra First Lady Urges Women to Prioritize Health Over Beauty Products
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has urged women in the state to invest in regular health checks and balanced diets instead of spending on bleaching creams. Addressing participants at the 2nd Anambra State Women Health Summit in Awka, organized under her Healthy Living Initiative in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), Soludo highlighted the importance of immunisation for children.
She expressed concern over the state’s low immunisation rates, stressing that vaccines are crucial for protecting children from severe illnesses. “Immunisation is vital for preventing lifelong diseases. It’s free, safe, and effective. Mothers must prioritize taking their children to health facilities for vaccinations to avoid the stress and expenses of treating illness,” she said.
Soludo also commended the state government’s free antenatal and delivery policy, which has significantly reduced maternal mortality rates, and called for similar success in immunisation coverage.
Dr. Uju Obiagwu of the WHO noted a decline in immunisation rates in Anambra, despite the availability of vaccines. She emphasized the role of mothers in ensuring children receive necessary vaccinations to prevent diseases such as measles, polio, and cholera.
Anambra WHO Coordinator, Dr. Mohamed Bonos, praised the state government for its efforts in supporting public health, while Prof. Brian Adinma, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, urged women to focus on reproductive health.
Dr. Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health in Anambra, affirmed that the summit reflects the state government’s commitment to the health and welfare of women and children.
