Peter Obi Welcomes Rescue of Kidnapped Students, Urges Greater Security Measures

Obi expressed relief and satisfaction at the recovery of the 20 medical students abducted in Benue State and the eight NYSC members kidnapped in Zamfara in August 2023. He extended his gratitude to the security agencies involved in these operations, noting that the rescue of these individuals was a significant achievement.
According to Channels Television, the rescue of the medical students was managed by the National Security Adviser’s office. Meanwhile, Major General Yusha’u Ahmed, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), confirmed the safe return of the corps members abducted on August 17, 2023.
In a statement on his X handle, Obi urged the government and security forces to enhance their efforts in preventing such criminal activities and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice. He stressed the need for proactive measures to tackle insecurity and highlighted recent incidents of violence, including the killing of 13 farmers in Niger State and the kidnapping of 10 individuals in Zamfara State.
Obi called for a decisive response to insecurity, stating that a safer Nigeria is achievable. He emphasized that the government and security agencies must lead efforts to protect citizens and secure the nation’s future.
