Nigerian defender and Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has completed a high-profile transfer to Saudi Arabian Professional Football League club Al Khalood. Troost-Ekong has signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, marking Al Khalood’s sixth signing of the summer.

The 30-year-old’s move comes as Al Khalood prepares for the upcoming 2024-2025 Saudi Pro League season, following their promotion to the top flight last season.
The transfer was officially announced on Al Khalood’s social media platforms. Before leaving PAOK, Troost-Ekong took to social media to express his gratitude to the club’s fans, management, and teammates, acknowledging their support and the memorable experiences he shared during his time in Thessaloniki.
“Dear PAOK, after an amazing year and season in Thessaloniki, I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to share and be part of those moments with you,” Troost-Ekong wrote. He extended special thanks to the club president, staff, medical team, head coach General Lucescu, his assistants, and his teammates, who he described as family.
Troost-Ekong joined PAOK in July 2023 on a three-year contract and was instrumental in their championship win. Additionally, he led the Nigerian national team to a silver medal at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he was named the tournament’s best player, scoring three goals.
