The turmoil within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified as the dissolved state executive, led by Augustine Agada, has taken legal action against the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje for defying a court order.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! On Wednesday, a Benue State High Court, presided over by Justice Theresa Igoche, issued an injunction preventing the dissolution of the Benue State executive led by Agada. Despite this, the Ganduje-led NWC proceeded with the dissolution later that day, prompting Agada and eight other executive members to file a contempt charge against the NWC.
In a motion (no: MHC/1585/M/2024), the Agada-led executive is seeking a court order to enforce compliance with the original injunction, which protects their tenure until its completion. They are also requesting punitive measures against the NWC for its defiance.
Agada’s legal team, led by M.T. Aiyebo, confirmed that the court order was properly served to the Ganduje-led NWC and the National Legal Adviser at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Agada expressed shock that, despite receiving the court’s directive, the NWC held a meeting later that evening to dissolve the executive and appoint a caretaker committee, in direct violation of the court’s ruling.
