KAMPALA, Uganda, July 9, 2024 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently welcomed a delegation from Nigeria’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). The meeting, held on July 8, 2024, aimed to exchange insights and experiences, particularly regarding the use of ICT for job creation.

Leading the Nigerian delegation, Rear Admiral A.A. Adesope (retired), Acting Head and Staff Director of NIPSS, emphasized the institute’s role in fostering research and dialogue on critical issues affecting Nigeria, Africa, and the global community. He highlighted that NIPSS’s flagship program targets senior leaders from various sectors, including the military, police, ministries, and civil services.

Rear Admiral Adesope noted that Uganda was chosen as a study model due to its similar pre-colonial history and significant youth population. He praised Uganda’s effective strategies in managing youth unemployment and job creation, particularly through ICT, and expressed a desire to replicate this success in Nigeria.

Representing the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Phillip Odida, Acting Director of Regional & International Peace and Security, commended the Nigerian delegation’s visit. He underscored the importance of knowledge-sharing and regional cooperation in addressing common challenges, stating, “Encouraging growth, development, and regional integration is crucial for overcoming prevalent challenges. Prosperity for one country should be seen as prosperity for all in the region.”
