Finidi George has resigned as the head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.

This resignation comes just days after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced plans to appoint a foreign technical adviser.

The news of George’s resignation was confirmed by former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, who posted on his X account on Saturday, stating, “News just in: Finidi George has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”

Finidi George, appointed on April 29, 2024, had a short tenure in the role, taking over from Jose Peseiro whose contract expired in February. During his time as head coach, George led the team in two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifying series, resulting in a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic.
