Obudu Mountain Resort, once a thriving world-class destination in Northern Cross River State, is on the brink of a grand revival as renovations near completion.
In a concerted effort to restore Nigeria’s most-visited resort to its former glory, the Cross River State government selected CIBA Construction Company Limited last year as the primary concessionaire to redesign, redevelop, and upscale the resort. Subsequently, CIBA Hospitality Limited partnered with Marriott International to manage the facility, ensuring its transformation into a premier destination.
Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism, recently led a high-level team, including Abubakar Ewa, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Cross River State, to inspect the ongoing renovations. This visit aligns with the National Eco/Community Tourism Roadmap, which aims to deliver economic benefits, social change, and goodwill through Nigeria’s tourism sector.
Dami Adepoju, an executive of Marriott International, expressed confidence that their collaboration with CIBA Hospitality Limited would cater to both leisure and business travelers. Josiah Samuel, group managing director of CIBA Construction Company Limited, praised the minister for her proactive approach and assured timely project completion, aiming to position the resort as a prominent tourism hub in Africa.
Simultaneously, the construction of the Obudu International Passenger and Cargo Airport is underway, promising to stimulate socio-economic activities in the Obudu region. Once completed, the resort will become a haven for international travelers seeking nature, serenity, and breathtaking views.
The new airport will enhance connectivity, serving as an economic engine and growth catalyst for northern Cross River communities. Industries in Ebonyi, Benue, and Taraba states, particularly those reliant on logistics, manufacturing, and e-commerce, will also benefit from this development.
