Jonathan emphasized the importance of integrating skills acquisition and technology into all levels of the educational system to accelerate the country’s development. He expressed concern over issues like cultism and bullying in lower school systems and urged government intervention to address these challenges effectively.

Commending General Abdulsalami Abubakar for approving the establishment of Igbinedion University, Jonathan acknowledged the significant role played by Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, in pioneering private university education in Nigeria. He also advocated for the removal of limitations hindering women’s progression in various career fields, citing his directive to the Nigeria Defence Academy to admit women during his tenure as President.

Reflecting on his presidential tenure, Jonathan lamented the resistance faced when advocating progressive ideas, which were subsequently abandoned after his tenure ended.

In response, General Abdulsalami Abubakar lauded Chief Igbinedion for his visionary leadership in establishing the university, expressing optimism for its continued success in the future.

Chief Lucky Igbinedion, speaking on behalf of the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Founder, highlighted the institution’s significant contributions to private university education in Nigeria over the past 25 years.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, outlined the university’s achievements, including graduating over 60,000 students since its inception.
