The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a declaration of wanted status for Margaret Emefiele, the wife of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The EFCC’s statement reveals that these individuals are wanted for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy with Godwin Emefiele to convert substantial sums of money belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria. Margaret Emefiele reportedly went into hiding subsequent to her husband’s arrest and subsequent court charges.
On Friday night, the EFCC declared Mrs. Emefiele, Mr. Eric Odoh, Anita Omoile, and Jonathan Omoile as wanted. The charges against them include conspiracy with the former CBN Governor to convert significant amounts of money belonging to the Federal Government. They are accused of committing felonies, specifically obtaining money by false pretenses and stealing, contravening and punishable under Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate and apprehend the individuals involved in these alleged financial crimes.
