In a renewed rivalry, Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu, prominent Nigerian business tycoons, have once again clashed after a truce brokered by former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje a couple of years ago.
Elder Statesman and business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, was instrumental in settling their previous differences.
These two influential entrepreneurs, based in Kano, hold significant sway not only in Nigeria but also on the African and global stages through their vast and diverse business interests, shining a positive light on Nigeria’s business landscape.
Although at a peace meeting initiated by Ganduje, they had previously agreed to collaborate for the nation’s growth, it seems the truce has unraveled, and their organizations are once again at odds.
The Dangote Group has accused the BUA Group of orchestrating a damaging media campaign under the guise of a concerned citizen, while the latter has cited instances of their rival’s tactics aimed at undermining their business.
In a seven-page statement titled “Economic Sabotage: Our Stand,” published in the media on November 2, the Dangote Group refuted allegations of illegal foreign exchange deals and money laundering totaling $3.4 billion, which reportedly took place under the tenure of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The Dangote Group labeled the report as a recycled accusation originally put forth by a competitor posing as a concerned Nigerian back in 2016.
Responding to these allegations, BUA, through its management, recounted how they have withstood Dangote’s schemes for over three decades, battling for control in their respective market segments.
Their adversarial history, filled with challenges, highlights their resilience and endurance, underscoring their contributions to Nigeria’s economy without resorting to subterfuge.
This ongoing feud’s resolution remains uncertain at this point.
