The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has disclosed that it recorded 149 incidents of crude oil theft across the Niger Delta in a single week. The NNPCL reported that one of these incidents led to the discovery of an oil bunkering site in Osuobodo between two ANTAN flow stations south of the Oguta naval base in Imo state.

This discovery was facilitated by a military operation initiated after air surveillance conducted by Target Energy, Tantita Security Services, Operation Delta Safe, and the military in August. The NNPCL noted that the oil thieves had elevated their activities, installing CCTV cameras in the camp and deploying mortar launchers and defense systems to eliminate potential threats.

Various other incidents of illegal connections and pipeline vandalism were reported in Udu, Ogharefe, Ohaji Egbema, Brass, Rivers state, Azuzu, Obodo Omadina, and Ogidigbein. In Ozuaku, Abia state, pipeline repairs were underway.

The NNPCL also reported the discovery of ten facilities used for storing stolen crude in different locations in the Niger Delta. Additionally, the arrests of vehicles carrying sacks of crude oil and wooden boats involved in oil theft were made across the region.

This data reflects the ongoing challenges posed by crude oil theft and illegal activities in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region.
