Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is facing scrutiny from a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) regarding the alleged misappropriation of N1 billion. This development adds to the ongoing turmoil within the party.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The NNPP faction, led by Acting National Chairman Major Agbo, announced its decision to probe Kwankwaso and some of his supporters, alleging that the misappropriated funds were generated from the sale of nomination forms. Last week, the Agbo-led faction suspended Kwankwaso and the Abba Kawu Alli-led National Working Committee (NWC) for a period of six months.
In response, the NWC, loyal to Kwankwaso, expelled Agbo and the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam. Both sides have accused each other of engaging in anti-party activities.
However, the situation has escalated, with the Agbo-led faction accusing Kwankwaso of financial misconduct. Factional National Publicity Secretary Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, in a statement following a meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, announced plans to involve security agencies in investigating the alleged misappropriation.
The statement read, “The NNPP will conduct a thorough probe into the mismanagement of well over one billion naira raised from the sale of forms to aspirants from March 2022 to date… This is to restore the confidence of party members and candidates who came forward with their hard-earned money to purchase forms.”
Furthermore, the Agbo-led faction accused Buba Galadima, a member of the Kwankwaso camp, of imposing candidates and engaging in corruption. They noted that Kwankwaso’s private residence served as the party’s Situation Room during the election, which violated party rules.
The statement expressed concerns about the location of the Situation Room and called for written complaints from affected candidates. It also alleged that other presidential aspirants were denied forms for the party’s primary election, clearing the path for Kwankwaso to become the candidate.
The Agbo faction called on its members and supporters to remain calm and promised an overhaul of party structures nationwide in the near future. In an exclusive interview, Agbo claimed that Kwankwaso had not contributed any funds to the NNPP and accused him of trying to take control of the party from its founders.
Amidst these disputes, Agbo asserted that the original owners of the NNPP had reclaimed the party, leaving Kwankwaso and his group isolated.
