Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has called for the immediate release of Mr. Wale Adedayo, the chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, who accused Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting over N17 billion in statutory Federal Allocation meant for local governments. Falana also advised Governor Abiodun to take legal action against Adedayo for libel.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Adedayo’s detention by the Department of State Services (DSS), also known as the State Security Service (SSS), came after he made these allegations and honored an invitation by the secret police in Abeokuta. He had claimed that Governor Abiodun orchestrated a kangaroo impeachment process against him and even directed others to harm him.
In response, Governor Abiodun denied the allegations, explaining that his administration had augmented the funds allocated to local governments in the state to meet their obligations, with the funds being handled by the constitutionally recognized Joint Account and Allocation Committee.
Falana pointed out that two of Governor Abiodun’s predecessors had successfully sued for defamation, and he encouraged the current governor to pursue a similar legal path. He stressed that considering the circumstances, Adedayo should be released from custody by the Ogun State Command of the SSS.
