Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani, has declined Jafaru Sani, former Governor El-Rufai’s pick for ministerial candidate, according to a report by Peoples Gazette on Saturday. The source noted, “He (Governor Sani) has now told the president to expect another name. He complained that Jafaru Sani has no political relevance in Kaduna and has been too loyal to El-Rufai.”
This development adds a layer of political complexity as Governor Uba Sani was originally El-Rufai’s preferred successor in the upcoming 2023 election. The situation further escalated due to accusations that Tinubu withheld information from El-Rufai about a security report affecting his nomination confirmation.
The conflict is reported to have been fueled within the State House by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Ribadu authorized a controversial security dossier accusing El-Rufai of violence and corruption. The former governor has faced criticism for violence during his tenure, as well as for alleged provocative speeches and corruption during his time as Federal Capital Territory minister and Kaduna governor.
