The council of Nigerian traditional rulers has declared its readiness to help President Bola Tinubu’s government fight security challenges facing the country for years.

This was noted by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who recommended that Tinubu should engage traditional rulers, who are closest to the people, to address the country’s insecurity problem.

He delivered the charge during a courtesy visit to the President by the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Ooni, who is also the co-chair of traditional rulers of Nigeria, was quoted by The Sun saying: “There are areas we will like to work with you, one of which is security. It is time to use us the more, we are not saying we are idle but to make your work easier, use us.

“The foundation of this country today is the traditional rulers. We are here to pledge our loyalty and support. We want to work with you to ensure you leave a legacy.

“Don’t underestimate what traditional rulers can do”, he said.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto and co-leader Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III stated that the visit was a customary practice by the monarchs whenever the country’s leadership changed.

He stated that the monarchs were people of many professions, ranging from the military to the judiciary and businesses, who had what it took to contribute to the advancement of society, adding, “whenever you reach out to us, we will be here.”

The Sultan stated that while the monarchs did not envy President Tinubu at this time due to the myriad issues confronting the country, he was confident that the combination of himself and Vice President Kashim Shettima would deliver.

“We thank God for the peaceful conduct of the elections,” he added.(
