Manchester City defeated Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to go top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners who saw their eight points lead reduced to three after failing to win their last two games.
Both sides started the encounter on a high intensity note with the Gunners looking more likely to score.
De Bruyne took advantage of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s poor back pass to fire Man City into the lead in the 24th minute.
Bukayo Saka drew Arsenal level three minutes before halftime from the spot after Nketiah was fouled by Ederson.
Gabriel lost possession to allow Bernado Silva and Erling Haaland to combine to set up Jack Grealish for the second goal in the 72nd minute.
De Bruyne set up Haaland in the 82nd minute to score the third goal which helped Man City return to the top of the table for the first time since November.
The Gunners have a game in hand but they will certainly rued their inability to stop City from winning.
Halland described Man City’s performance as the stuff of champions.
“City are, ‘we’ not me, are the champions so you can say so, yeah [that it was a champions’ performance].
“Small adjustment in half time from Pep and in the end we have good quality players and we have to get it out of every player and we did today.
“We have to play a little bit more like this sometimes and that is what we did today – I am so proud of every guy here and so happy to be here.
“We can all agree [Arsenal] has been the best team this season so to come and play against them is not easy, but we played an amazing game and got three really important points – we are in it again.”
Arsenal have now failed to win in their last 3 games in the Premier League, their last joint longest winless streak was from 4th April 2022 to 16th April 2022.
