Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has revealed the reasons behind his move to Southampton in the January transfer window.
The lanky striker joined Southampton from Genk on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee.
He made his debut in the club’s 3-0 defeat against Brentford.
Onuachu left the Belgian league as the top scorer with 16 goals, He had been linked with a move away from Belgium for the past three years before finally leaving for England.
The 28-year-old believes he made the move at the right time and he is ready to light up the Premier League with goals.
“It was now or never. I feel that I am the right age to take up this challenge and test myself at the top shelf.
“I have always followed the Premier League from week to week. It is a completely different game that is here because of the many duels and so on,” Onuachu told the club’s official website.
“It’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, so I’m happy that it’s my turn now.
“I have the physique, the size and the height to commit here – just let the fight begin.”
Southampton occupy the bottom spot in the division, Onuachu is confident he can help them escape relegation.
“I’m very motivated, it’s a huge challenge,” he told the club’s official website.
“Coming here we are last on the table and everybody is working to really try to leave the relegation zone.
“It’s a huge challenge, not just for me but for everybody in the team. I’m going to give it all if I have the chance to play, and try to help the team to survive.”
Onuachu will hope to get his first start for Southampton hosts Wolves on Saturday after playing 45 minutes against Brentford at the weekend.
